We teach the syllabus devised by Grand Master Bermas Kim, the most traditional, comprehensive and complete Hapkido syllabus in Australia.   Compared to mixed martial arts, nothing is borrowed.  The system is structured for incremental learning and development, with over 150 techniques in the junior syllabus alone.

Unlike many martial arts the learning does not stop at 1st Dan.  There are over 150 techniques for 2nd Dan, over 150 techniques for 3rd Dan and similar for 4th Dan.  Those with previous martial arts experience are welcome and will discover some exciting new techniques to continue their training journey with Hapkido. There are patterns (Hyung) in our syllabus but this is only one of several major training methods.

Children do not miss out either.  Children learn what adults learn, just not the same number of techniques (approximately half).  Children learn real techniques, real self defense and gain true abilities and confidence.

Hapkido is largely circular in nature and uses the opponents energy against them.  This is not to say there are no linear techniques.  Size, age, gender, physical presence or strength do not matter. Anyone can learn our effective self defense system, which makes Hapkido perfect for women and children.

2 years after starting, or thereabouts, 1st Dan grading is the most challenging, as well as the above there are an additional 30 ‘things’ to demonstrate.  All black belt gradings are conducted by Grand Master Bermas Kim.

Remember, your training does not stop at 1st Dan, there is more to learn so the journey continues.  Continuing beyond black belt Grand Master Bermas Kim and our Instructor Craig Cairney are leading you to become a well rounded martial artist, with abilities for any situation that may arise.
